SoNA’s Education Mission

SoNA’s ImagiMusic program strives to enrich and improve student development by bringing orchestral-based education programs into Northwest Arkansas’ local school environment, in concert with Arkansas’ State Standards and Arts Frameworks.

The students' needs are foremost in ImagiMusic workshops, which are developed in partnership with the school leaders and other community stakeholders. ImagiMusic is guided by the philosophy that exposure to classical music is not a luxury, but a human necessity.

“The most positive outcome has been the close encounter of my students with the beautiful, live music...

This is a multilevel experience with the teaching leader as well as the individual artists who were all gifted teachers.”

In-School Workshops

ImagiMusic workshops reach approximately 750 students and 40 teachers in 8 schools in Northwest Arkansas. Each school commits to a three-year partnership with ImagiMusic.

With generous support from the Walton Family Foundation, Walmart Foundation and Arkansas Arts Council, our workshops are presented at no cost to partner schools. The program follows students through grades 3, 4 and 5. ImagiMusic delivers integrated arts education tied to state standards and also equips teachers with the skills, resources and confidence to implement arts integration strategies in their classrooms through one-on-one training in the classroom.

ImagiMusic is designed to expose students to the arts through live music, visual arts, and literature in the form of classroom-based workshops by bringing a teaching artist (SoNA’s education director) and other professional musicians into the classroom. An ensemble of SoNA musicians consisting of a brass quintet, string quintet, or woodwind quintet, along with our Education Director Kristen Salinas, presents these exciting and interactive workshops over 12 days during each school year, as a true artist residency at each school.
